The 60's - New young actors from the New Wave began to star in larger films while the James Bond series began. Director's David Lean and Basil Dearden were at the top of their game while young director Stanley Kubrick, with films like
Dr. Strangelove and
2001: A Space Odyssey looked to becoming the future for cinema in the UK.

The 70's - The careers of Stanley Kubrick and Ken Russell began taking off with films like
A Clockwork Orange and
The Devils.

The 80's - British productions dropped more than 50% in 1980, but brought back by Companies like Channel 4, and Handmade Films. With producers such as David Puttnam and George Harrison productions like
Chariots of Fire and
Withnail & I were given international distribution.

The 90's - Like in the US independent films grew more popular. With the help of Film on Four (FilmFour) directors Danny Boyle and Guy Richie were able to make films like
Trainspotting and
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The 90's was also a time for Anthony Minghella who won two Oscars at the 69th Academy Awards for his film
The English Patient.

The 2000's - Danny Boyle continues in his success with films;
28 Days Later and
Sunshine, while the world falls for British actors like Clive Owen and Jude Law. In this decade several American vetrens like Woody Allen and Mike Nichols decided to try their hand in making films in the UK with their films
Match Point and
Closer.

With many production companies sprouting up and moving overseas it will be interesting to see what the next century holds for British Cinema.
